Visible Mending for Wovens Workshop w/ WrenBird Arts
Saturday, March 11 from 1-4pm
112 Grand Ave. Ste. 105
Bellingham, WA 98225
Join us at Spincycle Yarns & Supply Co. for a workshop led by Erin Eggenburg!
Join Erin Eggenburg for an information packed, sashiko-inspired visible mending workshop. Visible mending is the perfect antidote to ripped and threadbare jeans, as well as other sturdy wovens. You’ll learn and practice a beautiful stitching technique for patching, as a hands-on part of this workshop. This is a great class for beginners and seasoned hand stitchers alike, with an interest in how mending can be both functional and beautiful.
A note from Rachel: We offered this class in February of 2022, and I have been on a nonstop visible mending streak ever since. I honestly think that of all the textile-related classes I have ever taken, I've put what I learned from this one into practice more than any others! (Shhh, don't tell the others!) While Erin will provide denim patches for you to practice on, consider also bringing an item you'd like to mend. Why not get started right away!?
This 3-hour workshop includes:
• a presentation of mending materials and how they are used in practice
• a hands-on tutorial to practice and complete a patch, in the sashiko-inspired technique
• an explanation of how to repair specific types of mends (crotch, threadbare, knees)
• an opportunity to ask questions about your specific repair
• denim patch for practice
• sashiko needles
• straight pins
• sashiko thread and pearl cotton
• thread wax
